"Atoms for Peace" was the title of a speech delivered by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower to the UN General Assembly in New York City on December 8, 1953.
The yankees later gave away a 'free' nuclear reactor to Iran
As we know :
'A civil nuclear co-operation program was established under the U.S. Atoms for Peace program. In 1967, the Tehran Nuclear Research Center (TNRC) was established, run by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). The TNRC was equipped with a U.S.-supplied, 5-megawatt nuclear research reactor, which became operational in 1967 and was fueled by highly enriched uranium.[21] Iran signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 1968 and ratified it in 1970. With the establishment of Iran's atomic agency and the NPT in place, the Shah approved plans to construct, with U.S. help, up to 23 nuclear power stations by the year 2000.'
But, not so fast.
Firstly, the US had to overthrow the Democratically elected government in Iran.
They did.
'The 1953 Iranian coup d'état deposed the elected government of Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeq and his cabinet, it was effected by SIS and CIA spies working with anti-Communist civilians and army officers.'
So, why all this fuss about Iran building a nuclear reactor?
Simple.
The Iranians freed themselves.

As Pilger wrote yesterday and today we have not yet reached a point where we can even give an answer to the Hiroshima question.
To do so will demand us moving away from the cited powers-that-be.

Well, AnonynousOne, the point is that Iran would be awash with nuclear reactors all supplied by Westinghouse, or similar, if the puppet Shah had remained in place.
Yet another reason why big business wants a change of regime.

Zola, zola there are two American carrier fleets as well as the Ark Royal heading for Iran as we speak.
They are not going there to deliver humanitarian aid to the georgians, that's for sure.
